Frequently Asked Questions
What We Do
We provide screened and experienced Polish and Russian home aides for private contract by families in New Jersey and New York. We let FAMILIES CHOOSE their own aide, after meeting screened candidates. Candidates are recruited, interviewed and vetted by us for your specific needs and requirements. Our referrals are IRS compliant Independent Contractors and are not employees. We provide free amendable caregiver contracts. We do this for a onetime broker fee that you do not pay until you choose an aide that you like. All of our referrals speak English, and are trained on the IRS Independent Contractor Tax code. You may use their receipted services for your Medicaid spend down without penalty.
What are the rates that the Polish and Russian contractors charge?
Our screened and vetted Polish and Russian live-in referrals charge $200+ for a single care recipient and $240+ for a couple per day or $20-$25 for hourly care. Note: Most caregivers offer a cash discount rate of about 25% ($150+ single, $180+ couple per day). We do not recommend this option, but it is available to you if you choose it. If you have special requirements for the contractor, like if you need extra long hours, or if you need them to have a driver’s license or car, their rates will be higher than those stated above.
Who is responsible for the Home Aide’s Payroll Taxes and Liability Insurance?
If you choose to use the contract that we provide with one of our independent contractor referrals, then they are legally responsible their own payroll taxes and liabilities.
Can we use the weekly charges by the home aide towards our Medicaid spend-down?
YES! That is another advantage of using our service. Unlike when you try to hire someone privately on your own, there are no Medicaid penalties for the use of our service when Medicaid does the 5 year look back. Save your receipts from our bill , the invoices that your home aide will provide each week, and copies of the cashed checks you paid the invoices with. All of them count towards your Medicaid spend down.
Are Dave’s Polish™ home aide services tax deductible?
YES! In most cases you will be able to use the contractors invoices for dependent care tax deductions, and or towards the care recipient’s medical tax deductions. Speak to your accountant for details. All of our services and that of the home aide are all legal, “on the books”, and IRS compliant.
Do we get to pick our own caregiver from different screened candidates?
YES! We send you vetted candidates that meet your search criteria, and YOU CHOOSE your favorite
Do you have a Satisfaction Guarantee
Yes. If you are not 100% satisfied with your chosen caregiver, we will replace them at no additional charge, for the agreement period.
How do you screen and vet the caregivers?
We use a stringent Screening and Vetting Process, including a minimum of 2 interviews, a Nationwide criminal check, a Nationwide misdemeanor check, work reference checks from previous families and agencies/care facilities of employ. We relentlessly search and screen caregivers for those that match the specific skill-set needed to succeed working independently of an agency. Less than 15% of the caregivers that claim to be qualified for the position will actually turn out to be, and pass our vetting process. We know what to look for beyond the surface, where everyone appears so friendly and caring in the interview.
Where do you provide services?
Caregivers can be scheduled to work wherever you live in New Jersey or New York, whether out of your family’s house, a retirement community, or an Independent Living or Assisted Living facilities. If you need a 24/7 live-in companion in any other state, you can use our Nationwide service, Grandma Joan’s. Go to www.GrandmaJoans.net for details.
Why can’t I just put an ad in the paper myself for a caregiver ?
How would you screen them? Five out of six Polish or Russian caregivers FAIL a basic screening, even the ones with recommendations. What would you do if you need to fire your aide? Are you really willing to take on the high risks of employer liabilities? What if they get hurt in your home? What are the legal consequences? What invoice and receipting process do you need to follow with your caregiver NOW to not be penalized by Medicaid when they do your 5 year spend down look back? How about tax deductions for your taxes? We know all these answers, and many more that we will share with you.
How Much Do You Charge?
Our onetime fee is equivalent to 2 weeks of the caregiver’s weekly rate.
What if the caregiver we choose to contract with does not work out for us?
Don’t worry. The broker fee includes the security of having additional screened referrals sent to you if needed during the agreement period at no additional charge. We have a 100% Caregiver Satisfaction Guarantee!
How do I pay the caregiver?
After they provide you with the previous weeks invoice, you simply write them a personal check made out to their name. You may choose to pay them by cash to receive a discount rate ( usually 25% less), but we do not recommend this option.
How long does the process usually take, after we fill out a Caregiver Search Application?
The answer will vary depending on your caregiver requirements. The more requirements that you have, the longer it will take to screen matching referrals. Generally, screened and vetted care candidates that meet your criteria will be available for you to meet within 4-7 days.
